Product Details

The Altus MIPS helmet in Matte Black / Charcoal from Smith. You love a good storm day as much as carving under blue skies. The Smith Altus ski and snowboard helmet lets you adjust the venting on the go to match the weather conditions and your output. Of course, it brings safety innovations including zonal Koroyd® and MIPS® for the confidence to get after it in any snow conditions, too. It's light enough for backcountry missions and cuts a classic profile.

Features:
  • MIPS® Brain Protection System reduces rotational forces caused by angled impacts to the head
  • Lightweight in-mould construction fuses the exterior shell and EPS foam for a one-piece design that's lightweight and durable
  • Zonal Koroyd® advanced energy-absorption and ventilated impact protection
  • VaporFit Snow™ dial adjustment system offers 270-degree fit adjustment
  • AirEvac2™ ventilation
  • Regulator climate control allows easy, one-handed vent adjustment
  • 2 active vents (opening / closing control), 4 passive vents
  • XT2® antimicrobial lining offers sweat-activated odor control
  • Removable, audio-compatible ear pads
  • Goggle Lock
Standards

MIPS:
MIPS is used to reduce the rotational forces to the brain in the case of an oblique (angled) impact. Smith helmets are created to absorb direct impacts very efficiently and when combined with MIPS, Smith helmets absorb oblique forces better by allowing a small rotation of the outer shell relative to the liner. MIPS in action - When you fall to the ground at an angle rotational forces are generated. A helmet integrating MIPS technology creates a sliding layer between the outer shell and the head. This allows the helmet's outer shell to slide relative to the head when hitting the ground, so the rotational force is decreased, reducing the potential to damage your brain.

Adjust helmet size - dial fit system:
Located at the back of the helmet. The Dial Fit System utilises intuitive righty-tighty and lefty-loosey adjustment for quick, easy, on-the-fly adjustments and a comfortable fit every time.

AirEvac2™: Constant flow:
AirEvac 2 continues to drive the warm air away from your goggles through external vents and internal channels in the EPS liner. Internal airflow can be adjusted through the helmet's Regulator climate control system.

Koroyd®:
Koroyd® provides superior impact absorption, design flexibility, and ventilation when compared to materials traditionally used in helmet construction. By utilizing crumple-zone cylinders that crush uniformly on impact, Koroyd® manages energy more efficiently with less volume than any other protection material on the market. Unlike traditional protection materials, Koroyd® cylinders absorb and convert more kinetic energy, while increasing airflow and reducing overall weight.

Helmet sizing
Simply measure the circumference of your head at the widest point (just above your eyebrows). Take the measurement in cm – this is your helmet size. For more information on helmet sizes - please click here.
